Plant designed and built by IES Biogas for the production of 300 Sm³ / h of advanced biomethane from the anaerobic digestion of 150 t / d of agricultural and zootechnical by-products and energy crops. The 2,7 million Sm³ / y of biomethane produced will be directly injected into the national gas grid and used in the automotive sector, allowing to save over 2.000 t of oil equivalent and thus avoiding entering almost 4.000 t of fossil CO2 into the atmosphere.
The produced digestate is sent to a solid-liquid separation phase. The liquid part of the digestate is treated with a biological system for reducing ammonia nitrogen, decreasing it by 70%. The separated solid is aerobically stabilized to produce fertilizer, which enriches the soil with organic substance and nutrients, giving it back what was taken during agricultural activities and creating a real carbon sink.

The future is biomethane
Biomethane is a biogas derived gas, which has undergone a refining and purification process, called upgrading, whose concentration of CH4 exceeds 98%. It has characteristics and conditions of use corresponding to those of methane gas and is suitable for feeding the natural gas network.
The biogas, desulphurised and dehumidified, undergoes a purification process, in order to separate the methane from the other gases that make up the biogas mixture. The biomethane obtained can be used, marketed and transported, in gaseous or liquefied form, in the same way as natural gas.
The advantages of biomethane
- Programmable renewable source
- Reduction of import dependency
- Development of the local economy
- Environmental sustainability
- Perfect example of circular economy
- Reduction of the emissions and greenhouse effect
- Maximum flexibility
